Thanks for all the logistics and support. Owesome, you did well. The boys are spending time here celebrating the Independence celebration. But most importantly, withnessing the impact this mine is contributing to the environment. Hope they can return home and share what they see here. We expect to depart Lihir at 7am for Nissan before heading to Buka
The impact of submarine tailings disposal from Lihi mine to the surrounding ocean area is painfully visible and devastingly clear. I hope that you and your crew have made note of this and have taken some photos of it. This is exactly what will occur at Manus if Newcrest is gvien the full mining licence. The damage the mine will cause to our people livelhood will be irrevesibly devasting. The entire South coast of Manus – will bear the full brunt of this – haven’t we already suffer enough from the impact of climate change and deep sea mining. Future EIS on the mining at Manus by Newcrest must be peer reviewed before full licence is given.
